BuyingAdvice.com, a prominent website offering advice on car buying, has released its best recommendations for used cars.

The lists are based primarily on reports from owners and employ a proprietary statistical measure to create a scoring system of 0-10 to identify which vehicles consistently provided the highest levels of owner satisfaction. BuyingAdvice examined models from the years 1998 to 2006 and the results were broken down into 10 lists recommending the top 5 cars in each sector of the market.

Overall, the best rated model was the Honda Accord, which received a 9.9 rating and the lowest rated model was the Chevrolet Tahoe, which received a 6.4 rating.

Vehicles from Toyota and its luxury division, Lexus, dominated the lists, with Toyota coming out as best in class for small cars, large sedans and pickup trucks. Lexus swept the upscale and luxury sedan categories and also topped the mid-size and large SUV class.

Rival Honda won the title for best family sedan, the Accord, but also led the small SUV category with its CR-V and the sports car class with the S3000.

Ford had three models in the large sedan category, the Five Hundred, the Crown Victoria and the Mercury Montego, while the Cadillac Escalade and Chevy Tahoe both made the top 5 list for large SUV's.

The lists are intended to act as guides of the average owner experience and reflect overall patterns. Recommended ratings for a particular model do not necessarily mean that every customer will have a positive experience. They simply indicate that, on average, consumer experiences with that model are better than with competing models.
